The Riccobono Group becomesthe european leaderin heliogravure printing

Press Release

Paris, 4 September 2023

The Riccobono Group has finalised its acquisition of the TSB Group, Germany's leading independent gravure printer. The group comprises the companies Tiefdruck Schwann-Bagel or TSB, H+B Finishing, BASICO Finishing, ISI Storage, Garant Engineering & Purchasing and TSB Retail.

The TSB Group, located in Mönchengladbach, near Düsseldorf, operates a 42,000 m2 industrial site with 6 wide-web rotogravure presses, 2 Ferag inserting lines and 3 Müller Martini inserting lines, as well as an automatic storage system with 16,000 pallets.

Its annual turnover exceeds € 70 million. It employs nearly 300 people.

Mainly focused on the German market, the company's main customers are Otto Group, a leader in distance selling, mass retailers such as Lidl, Norma, Lutz, A.S. Watson and Carrefour, and major names in publishing and the magazine press such as Prisma, Funke, Weltbild, Bindinc and Telegraph Media Group.

The takeover was accompanied by a restructuring plan approved by 81% of the workforce, reducing the number of rotary presses from 6 to 4 and cutting 78 jobs, thereby adapting production capacity to developments in the German market, which accounts for more than 80% of the company's business.

Headquartered in Düsseldorf, the group is proud to have been a family business for seven generations.

The current management team will remain in place and will continue to steer the various TSB Group companies under the leadership of Dr Udo Bogner, who knows the various entities well.

Thanks to this operation, the Riccobono Group has become Europe's leading gravure printer, ahead of Burda, which operates three printing sites, Bauer, which operates two in Poland, and Bertelsmann-Prinovis, with its last plant due to close in early 2024.

This takeover means that TSB's customers will be able to print their magazines and catalogues from January 2024 on a restructured site that looks to the future and offers appropriate security solutions.

Guillaume Riccobono commented: « This acquisition represents the Riccobono Group's most significant expansion outside France, and fits in perfectly with our external growth strategy.

It will enable us to gain a foothold in the German market, which is the largest for high-volume printing, while at the same time enabling us to size our industrial facilities below the expected workload in order to anticipate the market's future decline.

It also opens up new prospects for us in other businesses and even other industrial sectors.

It is therefore with great enthusiasm that the Riccobono Group is embarking on this new adventure, a further stage in its growth. »

The Riccobono Group, a printer for five generations, is the French leader in newspaper printing, its traditional business.

With this takeover, daily newspaper printing now accounts for just 30% of its business, with 40% in magazine, catalogue and leaflet printing, 20% in distribution and delivery, and 10% in mailing and finishing.

Today, the Riccobono Group has more than 3,000 employees, including 1,400 part-timers, and a turnover of almost 310 million euros.
